Star Scootin’ Quilt, Block 3!

Standard

April has arrived, Easter is also here and now the next block for our Star Scootin’ Quilt!

Our log cabin block.

We will make several of these blocks depending on which size you are going to make. I will be making 8. But you may wish to make more later to add a border of them to the outside of your quilt to make it into a larger quilt.

You will need to cut the following to make one block. Just cut 4 or 8 of each depending on which layout you have chosen to make.

White cut 1 x 3.5″ square (8)

Pop Colour 1 x 2″ x 6.5″ (8)

1 x 2″ x 8″ (8)

Dark Grey 1 x 2″ x 3.5″, (8)

1 x 2″ x 5″, (8)

1 x 2″ x 9.5″, (8)

1 x 2″ x11″ (8)

Light Grey 1 x 2″ x 5″ (8)

1 x 2″ x 6.5″ (8)

1 x 2″ x 8″ (8)

1 x 2″ x 9.5″ (8)

1 x 2″ x 11″ (8)

1 x 2″ x 12.5″ (8)

Following the diagram of the block above and the photos below start stitching out your block. Remember to press the seams to the outside of the block after sewing each strip on.

All Cut ready to sew
sew the first strip to the centre square
First strip onto square
second strip onto square

Sew the next strip onto the opposite side of the first strip, continue around as the top diagram
adding the pop

final block. Make 4 or 8 depending which layout and size you are making.

I hope you all enjoy making this block. I have and will continue to make the odd one here and there to get them all done. I have a week off my real job coming up so I am looking forward to doing some sewing and playing with my crafting area and I have a special quilt to quilt for a friend. I will show photos as I go.
