Star Scootin’ block 2

Standard

Now without wasting anymore time here are the details for Block 2!

This is an 8 pointed star and requires us to make some units with ΒΌ square triangles. I like to use the EZ geese ruler for these, you can use an equivalent or just cut them from a square. It also requires us to make 4 square in a square units and the centre is just a standard square.

Cutting Instructions with the specialty rulers

Using your light grey cut 1 x 4.5″ square

Cut 1 strip of 2.5″ of Colour pop

Cut 2 strips of 2.5″ of white.

Cut 1 strip 3 3/8″ black then cut 4 x 3 5/16th inch squares of black.

Place one strip of white and the Pop colour with right sides together and using the ez geese ruler then cut 8 QST

with remaining white strips cut 16 HST with the ez geese ruler.

Cutting Instructions without special rulers

Cut 1 x 4.5″ square from light grey

cut 2 squares of the Colour Pop and the white at 5 3/16″ then cut diagonally twice to give a total of 8 QST

Cut 8 x 2 7/8″ squares and then cut diagonally once to give a total of 16 HST

To assemble the units and the blocks. Sew the QST triangles together along the shorter side making sure you put the right sides together and sew all in the same direction. Press seams towards the darker side. Butting seams together sew the units together.

Fold the black square and finger press to form a line down the centre. place the point of the triangle on this point so it will be centred when sewn. Sew triangles on opposite sides then press seams towards the outer of the unit. Repeat for the other sides for all four units.

layout the units and then sew together with the webbing method to complete the block.

The next block will be ready for over the easter period. It will be one we will be needing multiple of so you can either do all of them or just gradually do them as we go along over the year.

So until next time have fun, relax and enjoy the special moments.

Wendy.
